Our Journey

Supath Gramodhyog Sansthan (SGS) was established on 2nd October 1994. It is registered
under the Public Trust Act, and holds registration under Section 12AA & 80G of the
Income Tax Act, 1961.

Main Objective: To extend holistic support to the poor to better their lives by economic
and social empowerment through constructive interventions addressing grass-root level
issues.

Vision: “To build a healthy, happy, peaceful and prosperous society.”

Mission: “To develop mental, intellectual and emotional capabilities to imbibe values
and virtues in one’s life to re-establish a healthy, happy, peaceful and prosperous

— The Man Behind Supath —

Shri Devendra Sutaria, Founder and Chairman of Supath, is a graduate in Agriculture
Science. He started his professional career as an Agriculture Officer in Dena Bank,
performing duties in Rural Financing and the State Level Bankers’ Committee. He also
coordinated a pilot project for Strengthening of Credit Delivering System of the World
Bank for a period of 5 years, sponsored by NABARD and aided by the World Bank. He
further served as Deputy Regional Manager with the bank.

In 1987, he came into contact with the Rajyoga centre of Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual
University and started assimilating spiritual knowledge and the practice of Rajyoga
meditation. While still working at the bank, he set up the voluntary organization Supath
Gramodhyog Sansthan in 1994.

After serving the bank for 22 years, he opted for voluntary retirement in 2001 to work
full-time in the social sector. He has since headed and guided Supath, which provides a
platform to rural women to earn their living through self-help groups, resources,
financial support, and process know-how.

He was nominated as a Member of the Working Group of Women’s Agency and Empowerment for
the 12th Five Year Plan (2012–17) by the Planning Commission, New Delhi.

In the last 21+ years of existence in the social sector, Supath has experimented with
many new concepts and implemented best practices, integrating various linkages to
empower marginalized communities. Going forward, Supath will focus on a new dimension in
social service — the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual empowerment of
individuals, building inner strength to experience peace and happiness in personal and
social life.
